LAN (Local Area Network) –
It is a Local Area Network, where all the devices are locally connected within the limited geographical range, which is 1 to 2 kilometers.
Conditions for ideal LAN:-
- Locally connected
- Same transmission media
- One to two kilometers range
- Same protocols
Note:- The first LAN was created by ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency) and it is known as ARPANET. It was created for the Department of Defense of the US military.
MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) –
It means the Metropolitan Area Network, which optimized for a larger geographical area than a LAN, ranging from several blocks of buildings to the entire city.
WAN (Wide Area Network) –
WAN stands for Wide Area Network, It is the collection of various multiple different LANs.
Types of WAN Network:-
- Public WAN
- Private WAN
PAN (Personal Area Network) –
PAN is a Personal Area Network which is referred to the interconnection of information technology devices mostly up to 10 meters. These interconnected devices might include laptop computers, mobile phones, printers or other computing devices. It is also known as a wireless personal area network(WPAN).
CAN (Campus Area Network) –
Campus Area Network is an interconnection of local area networks (LANs) within the limited geographical area. Campus networks can be added to the set of wireless connections, connect several buildings to the same network, but it’s not the same thing. A CAN is smaller than a Wide Area Network.
SAN (Storage Area Network) –
SAN refers to Storage Area Network, it is used by different organizations to store data over the network. It is a very efficient way to store data over the network.
VPN (Virtual Private Network) –
It is the process to secure the network, with the help of ISP it creates a secure tunnel in encrypted form around the network to make sure that the is secure. It is a virtual private network practical in public networks.
