IP(Internet Protocol) Address :

It is a Unique Identification number of a device in a network, by which a device can communicate with other devices in a network. It needs a protocol to configure which is known as internet protocol. By the help of IP address we can easily identify a particular device in a network.

There are two types of IP addresses :

  1. Private IP address
  2. Public IP address

Private IP Address :

For Public IP address, we don’t need to pay to anyone but why this we cannot access public internet. It works with LAN communication.

Public IP Address :

For Public IP address, we need to pay to the ISP (Internet Service Provider) but with this we can access public internet.

Developers of IP Address :

  1. IANA –     Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IPv4)
  2. ICANN –  Internet Corporation for Assigned Network Numbers (IPv6)

Versions of IP Address :

IPv4 :-

It is a 32 bit dotted decimal address, which is divided into four equal parts, each part is known as octect, total number of IP address are 2 to the power 32 that is 4.3 billion approx.

IPv6 :-

It is a 128 bit hexadecimal address, which is divided into 8 equal parts, each part is known as field or block, total number of addresses are 2 to the power 128 that is uncountable.
